NHS Entitlements

You will be entitled to an NHS funded eye test if you are:

  • 60 years old or over
  • Registered as blind or partially sighted
  • Have been diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma
  • Are 40 or over and your mother, father, brother, sister or son has been diagnosed with glaucoma
  • Are eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher

You qualify for an optical voucher which provides financial help towards the cost of glasses AND an NHS sight test if you:

  • Receive Income Support
  • Receive pension Oredit Guarantee Credit
  • Are entitled to, or are named on a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate
  • Are named on a vilid NHS certificate for full help with health costs (HC2)

If you are named on an NHS certificate for partial help with health costs (HC3) you may also get help towards the cost of your glasses or contact lenses.


Eye Test Frequency

NHS eye tests are provided yearly for those people aged over 70 or those suffering from diabetes or glaucome. Anyone between the age of 60-70 years will be entitled to an eye test every 2 years unless the Optometrist feels it would be beneficial for you to have an earlier eye test online
